We will normally recommend prolonged embryo cultivation in the laboratory cultivation system. The best length of cultivation is between 4-6 days. This time makes it possible to distinguish properly developing embryos from embryos with slow or erroneous development, thus transferring the highest quality embryos with the greatest implantation potential.
The advantage is a higher percentage of success with the greatest chance of implantation in the endometrium. This procedure is not covered by health insurance.
The MIRI incubator has 12 separate chambers for embryo cultivation. The device is equipped with oxygen regulation. For each embryo, it can create a perfect environment, warmth, and own space.
The device evaluates the potential, quality, and dynamics of embryo development throughout the cultivation process. This allows for selecting the highest quality embryo for transfer and significantly increasing the chance to conceive.
The built-in high-resolution camera allows for monitoring the continuous development of the embryo throughout the cultivation process without having to remove the embryos from the safety of the incubation chamber for manual microscopy. Hence, the cultivation process and stable conditions are not interrupted.
Embryotransfer is a pain-free procedure in which an embryo is inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity using a thin catheter. One embryo is usually inserted. If the woman is older than 35 or previous IVF procedures repeatedly failed, two embryos can be inserted. The transfer of a larger number of embryos increases the risk of multiple pregnancies.
The embryo's potential for successful implantation can be increased by assisted hatching (AH). The embryo leaves a protective layer (zona pellucida) before it implants itself in the endometrium. Zona pellucida protects the ovum from multiple sperm cell penetration, and hence multiple pregnancies. If the zona pellucida is too dense or thick, the embryo can encounter problems dislodging. This usually leads to failed implantation. Assisted hatching is a micro-manipulative procedure done by an embryologist. AH is performed by creating an aperture in the zona pellucida by laser or needle, enabling easier dislodging of the embryo before embryotransfer. Assisted hatching increases the chances of successful conception for women over 35, in cases with a very strong zona pellucida, and cases involving repeated implantation problems.
The patient is usually discharged after an hour of bed rest and is educated about certain precautions for the next few days.
